How to Make your Bed look Luxurious

I am a BIG fan of luxury hotels. Are you?

If you’re like me, then you probably have the same picture of a dream bed: plush, clean, and super comfy - just like in a high-end hotel room.

When I make my bed, I feel real good knowing I’ve accomplished at least one task for the day. And at the end of the day, I know I’d be happy to see how great it looks and jump right in.

In this blog, I will show you how you can make your bed look more expensive on a budget. Because at Wayna World, making a bed ain't just a daily chore. Here, we make a bed like a designer.

TIPS ON WASHING YOUR SHEETS

  1. Wash your sheets one set at a time.
Otherwise, if you overload your washer, then your sheets will not get as clean as they could. This will also lessen the chance of the sheets balling up which can then cause other problems.

  2. Treat stains.
I use Oxiclean™ to treat stains because it doesn’t make the sheets turn yellowish. I also like using Zolt™ soap.

  3. Minimize wrinkles from the start.
IMPORTANT: before transferring your sheets from the washer to the dryer, make sure you untangle them first. This allows the sheet to tumble freely and knocks all the wrinkles out.

    ALSO..
don’t let the sheets sit inside the dryer. Take them out once they’re done. And if they are still a little damp, you can hand press them.

The longer you let them sit in the dryer, the more wrinkly they’ll get.

HOW TO MAKE A DIY LINEN SPRAY

I’m gonna teach you how I make my DIY Linen spray.

Here’s what you gonna need:
  • 2 tbsp alcohol (in my case I used Witch Hazel™ because there’s no alcohol in the store.)

  • Essential oil of your choice (6 to 10 drops)

  • Glass spray bottle (Ideally, use a dark-colored bottle to protect it from sunlight)

  • Funnel

  • Water

How to do it:
  1. Mix your alcohol with your essential oil

  2. Add water

  3. Use the funnel to  transfer everything to your spray bottle

  4. Shake, shake, shake

  5. Do a scent test to check if the mixture is just right for you. Make adjustments if needed.

WHY YOU SHOULD IRON YOUR SHEETS

Ironing your sheets might seem like an unnecessary chore. BUT it actually has plenty of benefits:

  • It’s hygienic! Ironing disinfects your sheets

  • It removes all wrinkles

  • It’s helps unshrink your sheets after washing

  • It makes your sheet more resistant to wear and tear

  • It makes your bedding fluffier and more comfortable

  • Ironing can be therapeutic too. Don’t you think?

COVER YOUR BED FRAME AND BOX SPRING

Now, if you look at pictures of luxury hotel beds on the internet, you’d notice that the bed frames and box springs are covered.

There are several ways you can do this. I actually made my bed myself and you can watch how I did it here:

This time, I’m doing it for my son’s bed.

Here's what I did:
  1. I took the box spring

  2. I flipped it over

  3. And I wrapped it like a present.

Simple. 😉

I also installed wooden legs to his bed and they’ve been standing strong up till now. If you want to see how I did that, you can watch the video here:

Another tip: you can also add a bed skirt. You can get these for around 25 to 35 dollars.

TIME TO MAKE YOUR BED.. WAYNA STYLE

So..

We already washed and pressed the sheets.

We have our DIY linen spray.

We have our customized Pluto Pillow.

Now here comes the most fun part: dressing the bed.
Here's how to do it y'all:
  1. Apply your fitted sheet.
Note: make sure the sheet tag is on the right foot of the bed so you don't have to fumble with the sheet.

  2. Apply your first flat sheet.
Keep in mind that the top sheet should be face down so that when we fold it back it’ll look like it's put on correctly.

  3. Once that’s laid down, apply some of your linen spray.

  4. Next, put on your down comforter.
Hack: if you have a colored or old comforter, you can still add that to your bed and still keep that all white luxury look by covering it with another sheet. Cool, right?

  5. Add the second sheet.

  6. Apply a little more of your linen spray.

  7. Tuck it all in.
As you do, add a fold so that your comforters do not show.

  8. Apply the hospital corner technique.
Others call it the military corner. You do this by creating a triangle at the top which creates a flap. Then you simply tuck the flap in to create a very neat look.

  9. Add the pillows.
Here is a clever hack: if you have a queen size bed, be daring and use king size pillows.

I personally do not like flappy pillowcases, so I tuck them inside too. This makes them look much better. Also, I make sure to have the open end of the pillow facing inside the bed and the closed end outside the bed.

  10. Finishing touches.
Add a cute lumbar pillow and a stylish throw blanket.

REMEMBER:

If you don’t have the budget to have an expensive bed, you can always make use of other things that you do have - time, effort, and skills.

Because at the end of the day those are what makes a great interior designer.
