You’d be surprised as to how you can make your bedroom look like a hotel on a budget just by following these simple-yet-effective bedroom ideas for small spaces.

Your bedroom is your personal haven - it is the place where you START and END your day. It is your home inside your home.

So the atmosphere in your bedroom makes a profound difference to your well-being.

Here are my 8 interior design tips for a DIY hotel room at home. These apartment bedroom inspirations are real game-changers.

1. Bedside drinking water

I know this sounds like “um..okay..water”

But keeping water beside your bed is both healthy and stylish. You will find it in all luxury hotels.

Drinking water + fancy containers + a basket or a tray = A good decor piece.

It is good to have water ready when you wake up thirsty in the middle of the night and when you wake up in the morning.

2. Keep it simple

In luxury hotel rooms, SIMPLE is always the way to go.

Neutral over Bright colors. Plain over busy patterns.

Your bedroom is a place to relax. And maintaining a simple backdrop helps in this. On the contrary, having complex decors are more stimulating.

BUT...

You can still make things interesting by adding TEXTURE.

This can be to your beddings, to your pillows, or to your rugs.

Less COLOR. Less PATTERN. More TEXTURE.

3. Remove your phone

What do I mean?

Giving yourself a form of entertainment that is non-digital gives your eyes and your mind a much-needed screen time break

It could be:
  • Books

  • Puzzle games

  • Notebook or a planner

Having alternatives to your phone or the television can also help you get more sleep.

4. Install blackout curtains

Blackout curtains have been a lifesaver for me. This is a necessity especially if you’re a night shift worker.

I learned that blackout curtains not only block out sunlight but also noise! A lot of 5-star hotels use these too.

I did not use blackout curtains for a long time and I regret not buying them earlier.

You can check this awesome Blackout Curtain from my AMAZON SHOP:

5. Invest in a comfortable mattress

Like I said earlier, my bedroom was my first makeover project in my apartment.

I did this 2 years ago. And during that time, I didn’t have much budget to buy new stuff. But I knew I had to invest in a good quality mattress.

Why? Because a better MATTRESS means better SLEEP. And better sleep means better HEALTH. And better health means being better in pretty much everything else - in doing my job, in serving my family - EVERYTHING.

The Benefits of GOOD SLEEP:
  1. Growth hormones

  2. Reduce stress hormones

  3. Less cranky

  4. Good for heart health

  5. More focused

If you follow my Youtube channel or have read my About Me page, you may already know that I’m a Registered Nurse.

And I pretty much have been working night shift for about 10 years. Because of this, I developed a bit of insomnia. I just could not sleep for more than 4 hours at a time.

Now when I did my bedroom makeover, I made the decision to invest in a good mattress. That’s when I purchased a Nectar Mattress.

And it has worked wonders for me since then.

What’s even more amazing about Nectar Mattress:
  • Lifetime warranty

  • Free shipping and Returns

  • 365 days trial

I could not be any happier and I totally recommend this product - 100%

6. Add soft lighting

If you’ve read my previous blog on 10 Renter-Friendly Bathroom Upgrades, I mentioned that you shouldn’t use warm white lighting in your bathroom but that daylight lighting works best.

Well, it’s the exact opposite in your bedroom.

  • Daylight lighting > energizing/stimulating > Ideal for BATHROOM

  • Warm white lighting > relaxing/nostalgic > Ideal for BEDROOM

In any luxury hotel room, there is always an option for a soft-light setting. Try this in your apartment room too!

7. Add a little music

Playing music in your bedroom is a great way to cover multiple senses - not just touch and sight, but also hearing.

8. Add a relaxing scent

When your sheets and your room smell fabulous, it feels even more luxurious.

Many high-end hotels even have their own “signature scent”.

I personally like using Lavender which is known for its relaxing effect.
